The 4th of July ball.
An excuse for the girls to go running up the halls wrapped in towels, with half painted nails, hair half done, and looking like clowns if they wanted to.
They could go to the dance looking as absurd as they wish....well they not over the top absurd. If it was a girl their dresses had to be classed as a dress and not a pretty t-shirt that barely passes the hips.
For the guys... well as long as it was smart and didn’t include Jeans or Trainers they would be fine.....
And as long as both lots wore masks then everyone would be fine. That was the big rule. You have to wear a mask that hides your face. Because why have a school called Masquerade if you weren’t going to have a masked ball?

This fine Monday was spent getting ready for the ball. Ari woke up at 8 in the morning, stayed in bed until like 9 reading, then managed to drag herself from her bed and get showered in her zombie-like-first-thing-in-the-morning state. Eventually after almost turning herself into a prune, the young Vampire pulled on a pair of jeans and an old t-shirt. There was no point in starting to get ready yet. It wasn’t going to take her all day, not like some of the girls who Ari could already hear squealing about nail polish, and eye shadows and such.
She also heard people say something about face paint and costumes and had to resist the urge to stick her head out of her door and yell that it wasn’t Halloween (something Ari couldn’t wait for).

After breakfast Ari painted her nails blue, and then studied for a while, chipping half of the nail polish.
After Lunch Ari took off the nail varnish she had put on earlier (it was all chipped and silly looking) and re-did it, this time making sure to add a clear layer that would hopefully prevent it from chipping again. And then read for a while.

At four PM Ari finally started to get ready. She did her make-up first, which just consisted of eyeliner, a small amount of blue eye-shadow, some mascara and some lip gloss. She wasn’t one of those girls who constantly looked like she had been attacked by a box of orange crayons.
Make-up done to perfection, the girl pulled her dress (it took me forever to size that right and adjust Taylors arm so it looked like she was holding the dress up...even then it still looks odd) off of its hanger and slid it on, pulling her golden curls out of the back of it.

By now it was almost five o’clock. The dance started at 6, which meant that Ari had almost a whole hour to get her shoes and mask on, and head to the doors of the dance. Due to the fact that the faculty wanted nobody to know who each other was there were no dates for the dance organised, and if there was then Ari just didn’t have one. She wasn’t all that bothered by that, she’d probably just end up hovering for half of the dance, then disappear after a while, get changed and go into the woods.

But maybe things would be different this dance... she had met a lot more people round the school, so maybe this year she might recognise people and be able to hang with them for a while.... instead of watching all the normal people dance and have fun. Either way she had an hour to wait until the dance opened and people could start going into the gym (which was where the dance was taking place).

Ari spent most of that hour wandering round the dorm with her mask on, her hair was left as normal, because she didn’t see any point in putting it all up nicely if she was just going to leave the dance soon after it started... it was a waste of a dress and mask really, but Ari liked going and trying to guess who was who. And she liked looking at all the pretty dresses... and watching the fireworks from the edge of the forest.

The bell rang, alerting the students that the doors were now opening to the ball. There would be a buffet there, so there was no need to get anything to eat before it started. So without any other reason to delay going to the ball Ari pulled on her of Shoes and left her room for the ball.

****
Ten minutes later found Ari in the queue to go into the ball. Though there were no tickets or anything like that needed everyone was going into the gym slowly because they all arrived at once. It was a slow process but eventually Ari managed to get into the gym. She let out a small gasp at the decorations, they had gone all out this year. The room was completely transformed, all of the stuff usually in the gym were in storage, and as usual the staff at school managed to transform the room into something simply magical. (due to lack of descriptive muse i’m gonna let someone else say what it looks like)

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Bridge Scott on Wed Jul 27, 2011 12:15 am

It started off like any other Monday. Bridge was up, gone before his roommate could wake up, in the library to study. But on his way there, he had noticed girls running this way and that, half dressed, half made up, just half everything. The only complete thing about them was their orange glow. Bridge never understood why people had to turn themselves in Oompa Loompas. It never really made sense to him. There were several things about people Bridge never really understood. But that wasn’t his job. His job was to blend into the woodwork, be invisible. That was his job.

Listening to some of the conversations, it hit him. Today was July fourth. Later that night, there would be a masked ball in the gym. Bridge decided to go to breakfast this morning, figuring more people would be occupied with getting ready. Bridge himself needed to report to the gym no later than 9:30 to help oversee decorations. He was part of the decoration committee, after all. At breakfast, he ate a small meal of cornflakes and a banana, not feeling very hungry. Bridge never was that hungry. After cleaning up after himself, Bridge slung his messenger bag over his shoulder and walked to the gym.

Decoration was in full swing. Giant white canvases had been erected over the walls, and some art students were already hard at work on those, under the direction of Mrs. DaVinci, of course, painting fireworks, flags, you name it, it was being painted somewhere. Several students were hanging red, white and blue streamers all across the rafters, spiraling them out from the lights, giving the illusion of fireworks. Mr. Cobain was arguing with a student over the music selection for the night over at the DJ stand, and Brian, the janitor, was helping Ms. Montgomery program the lights for the night.

After everyone else had called it a day, and went to lunch, Bridge walked around with a clip board, making sure everything had been done. That’s when he noted it was a quarter to five. He had about an hour to get ready. Bridge stopped by his room, grabbing his white Hi-top Chuck Taylor's, a white fedora with a red and blue checked band, dark blue slacks, and a dress shirt the color of dried blood. Then he made his way down to the dressing room, a spare mask in hand. Bridge had several of them, in case one happened to break. On this occasion, however, it came in handy.

Bridge sat at one of the vanities, hunched over his spare mask, painting red and blue star bursts on it. When he was done with that, he changed, stuffing his street clothes in the bag, placing the painted mask on his face. Then he got to work on the unmarred half of his face. First, he painted waving red and white stripes, before lining his eye in kohl, adding a small streak just past the outer corner of his eye. Finally came the electric blue eyeshadow and lip stain. Pleased with what he saw, Bridge rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbow, and snapped a blue and red checked leather wristband on.

Bridge made his way back to the gym to do last minute checks on everything before they let the other students in. The lights had been turned out, and blue, white, and red lights flashed at random intervals and at random intensities to give the illusion that there were fireworks bursting from some unknown location, as they were placed tragically so that no one could pass in front of them to cause a shadow. Special floor lights had been set up to illuminate the murals the art students had painted. Bridge checked that the refreshment tables were well stocked.

Platters of snacks in all sorts of patriotic designs littered the several refreshment tables placed all throughout the gym, and on each table was at least three punch bowls, each filled with a different kind of punch: blue mixed berry, red fruit punch, and white pineapple. Somehow, who ever was in charge of the punch had managed to get it to glow phosphorescently, but Bridge was scared to ask how. Against the back wall, Bridge noticed a mural that hadn’t been painted. Upon closer inspection, it revealed small Christmas lights. He clicked the little dial to let power run to them, and was amazed at what he saw. Strings of white lights that would illuminate one at a time leading up to multicolored explosions. Glancing at the clock, he decided to leave it on. One last thing left: making sure the gym teachers, Coaches Winley and Grady, had enough red, white, and blue glow sticks to pass out to the incoming students.

Resting at a refreshment table to admire his handy work, Bridge signaled Mr. Cobain to play the first song, which happened to be Katy Perry’s “Firework”. Bridge laughed. It had nothing to do with the Fourth of July, and was probably only on the list as a joke. He signaled the coaches to let the students in, and suddenly the gym was filled with students. Bridge marveled at how they were dressed. Some had simple clothes, like him, whereas others were wearing all sorts of strange costumes. The one thing they had in common, though, they were all in masks. That was the one thing Bridge liked about these masked balls was that he wasn’t the only one in a mask.

Bridge decided to take a chance and poured himself a glass of blue punch. He smiled at the expressions on everyone’s faces at the decorations. Well, the expressions that he could see, anyway. Bridge wasn’t watching where he was going, and walked straight into a girl with a light blue dress and a matching mask. She had long blond hair, and looked slightly familiar. “Oh, sorry.” Bridge rasped. Then he got a good look at her. “Ari? Ari Ravenwood?” Bridge asked. “It’s me, Bridge. The guy from the library.” He offered her his glass of punch.

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Lucien Davis on Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:49 pm

Lucien groaned as he turned over in bed, wondering what the hell the noise was that was going on outside. Rolling off the side of his bed, he put on a t-shirt and some jeans before poking his head out of his door. As he did, his eyes widened. Was he still dreaming or something? There were half dressed girls running up and down the corridor with towels wrapped around them. As he listened in, he heard them talking about dresses and make up and masks. Lucien realised what the fuss was about as he stepped back into his room. He wasn’t dreaming – today was the fourth of July, and they were meant to be having a masked ball tonight. Meaning they had to dress up smart. Lucien gave a shudder as he thought about that. He hated wearing suits.

However, the dance didn’t start until six, so Lucien had most of the day to himself to do whatever he wanted. Looking at his watch, he saw it was almost noon, meaning he had about five hours to mess around with before he started getting ready. The first thing he did was get in the shower. He spent half an hour in that, just relaxing and letting the water run over him. Stepping out, he used his fire ability to dry himself off and then got dressed. Stepping back out into the hall, he went to the dining hall and got himself some lunch, sitting on his own and enjoying the food. By the time he’d finished, it was only half past one. Today was going to be a long day.

Lucien went outside to the woods and had a wander, making sure no one saw him as he passed the fence into the forbidden area of the woods, where only those of a supernatural nature were allowed to go. Spreading out his wings, Lucien took off. Flying was always fun and a brilliant way to pass the time. However, he soon got bored. He had no one to talk to today, and no classes in which to annoy people. What a bloody boring day...

As he landed and tucked his wings back into his back, feeling the uncomfortable sensation of them sliding into it and disappearing, he checked again. Half past three. He was so bored; he was actually starting to wish he’d been on the committee just so he’d have something to do. He made his way back to his room and read while listening to a bit of music. His alarm went off at five, and Lucien grinned. In an hour, it would be time for fun.

Lucien got into the shower again, washing away the sweat and dirt from been in the woods. He dried off the same as before, and got his stuff out. He was going to wear a blue dress jacket, with a silvery blue silk tie and white shirt, with a pair of white dress pants and black dress shoes. And his mask was quite a nice one, or so he thought. It was a blue and gold mask, the type commonly used in the masquerades over in Italy. When he was finished, he looked at himself in the mirror and smiled. Even though he hated suits, Lucien had to admit, he looked quite fetching. Then again, that could have just been him.

Lucien took his mask off before poking his head out of his room, and looked up and down the corridor. It was empty, which helped him keep his anonymity. Putting his mask back on, Lucien shut his door and set off to the gym, where the ball was been held. He ended up near the back of the queue to go in, which didn’t fuss him at all. He wasn’t really going to be dancing, anyways. As he stepped in, he looked around the room, impressed. The committee had done a good job at decorating the place in red, white and blue.

In fact, the place looked brilliant. However, Lucien been Lucien only noticed one thing – the buffet tables. He walked towards one, winding his way through the crowd until he reached one. He saw the bowls of punch, and a smile appeared on his face. It was a shame it wasn’t alcoholic, because that would no doubt have led to an amusing night. But this was a school, so he wasn’t too disappointed. He got himself a glass of the blue punch, and stood with his back leaning against the wall, slowly sipping his drink and scanning the crowd.

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Adele Roux on Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:16 pm

Ade woke up at 6:30, like usual, thanks to her roommate’s God awful tendency to wake up at the crack of dawn. A small clicked silenced that annoying beeping that emitted from the small alarm clock. Once it was silenced, she fell back asleep, ignoring her roommate’s noise as she moved about the room, fussing about some ball of sorts the school was throwing. She woke up again at a quarter to 11, the roommate gone frolicking with her little group of friends. She swore, as soon as she was able, she’d ditch the human. It was so uncomfortable to sleep in her human form. And the little twerp wouldn’t shut that darn noise maker off. Sighing, Ade pushed the thoughts of annoying roommates out of her head, glancing at the calendar. July 4 was circled in a bright pink that should be illegal; the words “Masquerade Ball!” written outside the circle, covering the dates around the box, in the same horrid color. Stretching and rubbing her eyes, Ade preformed the usual morning rituals. Showered and dressed, she headed to Dr. Crusher’s office, getting her daily dose of sludge.

The way to lunch, she slowed, allowing herself to listen to the frantic pitter-patter of orange feet as it seemed the female population needed to get ready at 11AM for an event that started at 6. ‘Such idiots,’ she thought with a sigh and a roll of her eyes. It was truly pathetic, these girls, to fret over something so minuscule. Surely, if they had gone to as many masked balls as she had, their excitement would be non-existent. But no, sadly, they had not been to as many masked balls as she had, so they didn’t feel the same boredom in the pit of their stomach as she did. Taking care of her tray, she returned to her room, and began getting ready.

The first thing to do was to decorate the mask. This was a very simple task, as she had decorated tons of them for the maidens at her grandfather’s balls. The mask was rather small, as it was just an eye mask that came to point out to the side at eyebrow level. Painting it with gold and purple fireworks on a midnight blue back ground was simple. Adding the glitter? Not so much. Once the mask was painted and glittered, Ade returned to the shower, getting all the glitter out of her hair and the paint off her face and other areas.

Glancing at the clock (the time was already 3), she started on fixing her hair. It wasn’t a simple task to blow dry her hair. Then pinning it back away from her face? Utter hell. ‘No one should ever have to deal with THIS much hair…’ she thought, while brushing the still damp hair. After that was done, she braided the hair that usually framed her face with gold thread, and pinned the two braids back with a dark purple clip. She left the rest of her hair loose around her shoulders. Wrapping it in a towel so it wouldn’t get ruined, she stepped back in the shower, grabbing the air brush. With the air brush being filled gold paint, she got to work painting her arms and legs. Once done, she stepped up to the mirror, placed the mask on her face, and began painting her face, neck, and shoulders the same color.

Once that was finished (by now, it was 4:30), she took the mask back off, and did her eye makeup in varying shades of purple. She lined her lips dark purple lipstick, and put a layer of clear lip gloss over that. Next to be done was her nails: dark purple back ground with gold “fireworks” going off. That was festive, wasn’t it? After covering each nail with a clear coat, she looked back at the clock (it was 5:30 currently). She sighed and stepped away from the mirror, and back into the room. ‘Oh, it was nice, not being interrupted by that dreadful human,’ she thought with a small smile. Setting her hair free from the towel, she retrieved the dress that was hanging on the door that led out into the hall. Much like the rest of her outfit, the sleeveless dress was purple, with a dark purple shawl. So what if the theme was fireworks? Ade looked like she was made of gold for crying out loud! She chuckled, thinking of the crowd’s reaction to the gold girl, but hey, it wasn’t like people would recognize her as the gold girl. The chuckle soon turned into a full out laugh; oh, Ade was gonna get a kick out of the night!

Once the laughing was over, she slipped into the purple flats, a change from the heels that she tended to wear, and grabbed her mask. It was already 6:05, and she could hear the doors open and the students stream out. Another mild chuckle erupted from her lips as she listened to the excited squeals of the girls. She hoped that she wouldn’t be the strangest one there, but then again, it wasn’t like she cared. She wanted to be remembered. She wanted to be the first thing that popped into the minds of those who thought about tonight. She was sure, that having gold skin, she would be remembered pretty easily. Once she heard the squeals die down and fade away, she glanced out into the hall, looking for stragglers; there were none. She smiled, and grabbed the mask, fixing it on her face.

Upon entering the gym, she gasped at the decorations. It was beautiful, much better than the bland and dull displays that her grandfather put on for his balls. So, maybe she could forgive herself if the décor was the first thing, and she was the second. Smiling, as people noticed her gold skin, she wound her way through the crowd, to the buffet. She got herself a glass of the red punch, along with something to munch on, and stood there, just watching and listening to the music.

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Arriane Ravenwood on Fri Jul 29, 2011 9:26 pm

Ari rolled her eyes at the first song choice. Fireworks, by Katy Perry, though it had been a good song at first it had quickly become overplayed and Ari had gotten quite annoyed with it. And now it was on...Again. She sighed and carried on edging round the rooms near the buffet tables so she could grab a drink of something... Something red. She looked at the glowing drink in the punch bowl and poured a small amount into her cup.

Surely they weren’t serving blood at a school dance.... but it would be pretty cool if it was at least spiked with a little blood. She took a sip of the drink cautiously, gagged and spluttered for a few seconds, pulled a disgusted face at the juice and put her cup back down on the side for some other poor person to try. It was simply a disgusting drink. But that might just be Ari not liking the flavour. Everyone else around her seemed to be enjoying it.

She decided that later on she would go into the kitchens later and grab a few bottles of water to take into the woods with her. If she ever managed to get out of the doors that is. The teachers seemed to be tighter on security this year, and she had heard a few whispers from them in an almost conspiring tone. It was like there was something going on that they didn’t want the students to know about. It wasn’t a first, but this seemed to have a more serious tone to it. And they had all seemed worried lately.

Ari let her thoughts wander off as she milled around the tables, bumping into someone as she walked. She blinked a few times, trying to snap back into reality and smiled slightly at one of the more OTT people around the hall. They both apologised at the same time, saying “Oh, sorry,” And Ari had to resist the urge to shout ‘JINX’. It was a childish game really, but she had always found it amusing.

Ari probably should have remembered the voice, but she had spoken at the same time as the boy, and hadn’t really paid much attention. But when the boy looked at her and said “Ari? Ari Ravenwood?” She frowned slightly.

“Maybe.... who wants to know?” She said slowly, looking round for a way to escape just in case. It wasn’t like she expected him to randomly attack her in the middle of the dance.... she was just been cautious.

“It’s me, Bridge. The guy from the library.” Bridge said, offering Ari his punch. She shook her head at it and blinked again trying to think over the loud music for a second before her face broke out into a smile.

“Oh! Bridge...yeah!! Hi!! Haha...I didn’t recognize you under all the war paint... I mean...makeup...I mean... face paint... or whatever it is... You look...very...patriotic? And as for the punch...I’m staying off the stuff tonight... foul tasting thing assaulted my taste buds a few moments ago...the red one anyways...I suspect they all taste similar? Either way nah...I’m not really planning on sticking around for all that long...”

She smiled and looked around the Gym again, looking for people that she might recognize under the masks. She was pretty sure that the guy in the blue jacket and white pants was one of the boys she had shown round earlier in the year...Lucas or Lucien or something like that. She didn’t really see anyone else yet though.

“How’s your shoulder? Has it healed okay?” Ari asked, remembering the arrow that had attacked Bridge when they were walking through a booby trapped secret passageway in the library.

((agh...it seems to short...My muse is like...not been nice atm..))

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Bridge laughed. “You think I look festive? Wait til Halloween. And I figured the punch would taste bad, I mean, it is glowing and all. How could you even manage that?” The last question was said in a joking tone, but Bridge was entirely serious. He wanted to know how the managed to get the punch to glow. It was sort of freaking him out.

“How’s your shoulder? Has it healed okay?” Ari asked, probably thinking about the arrows that assaulted Bridge in the passage in the library. Just thinking about it made Bridge wince. That had not been one of his better moments. “Oh yeah. Still a little sore, but the nurse said I would be just fine. The bleeding’s finally stopped, and the wound is nearly closed, but it’s gonna scar, but not like that’s an issue with me, is it?” Bridge chuckled.

He could see Ari looking around, probably looking for people she knew. Bridge did the same, but he really hadn’t met very many people. Aside from Ari, there was Danica, the annoying human girl with a sixth sense, and Olivia, the fae girl who freaked out when she heard about Bridge’s accident. But, he supposed that was his own fault, being invisible to most people all the time. Not that Bridge minded at all. If they could see him, they would stare. His own roommate didn’t know he existed.

“See anyone you recognize?” Bridge ask, seeing Ari’s eyes stop on a boy in a blue jacket and white pants. “Also, what do you think of the decorations?” Bridge wanted Ari’s opinion, to see if he should even sign up for the decorating committee for the next masked ball. He thought he had done a fairly decent job, but he was probably a little biased, so an outside source who didn’t know he was in charge of the decorations would be the best place to ask.

Bridge looked out over the gym. Students had gravitated toward the walls, leaving the middle of the dance floor empty. He decided right then if he was part of the decorating committee for the next dance, he would be sure to book a live band, instead of having Mr. Cobain playing a playlist. Because this place was dead. Like chivalry dead....okay, maybe that was the wrong expression to use, but you get his point, right? There was nothing going on, and Bridge did not like the contingency plan. If the dance floor saw no action in 5 minutes, the coaches were to start break dancing. Fearing the worst, he latched onto Ari’s wrist.

“Okay, I need you to trust me. We need to go dance, I don’t care how bad it is, we need to do it. If we don’t, the coaches will start break dancing, and I don’t think ANYBODY wants to see that.” He whispered at her, never taking his eyes from the empty dance floor. “It doesn’t even have to make sense, just move enough that the coaches don’t break dance.” Bridge tried to inject as much urgency in his voice as possible. He had seen the coaches break dance when the contingency plan was put in place, and it scared him more than being burned a live or being shot with an arrow.

((late reply..so sorry...and the site needs to revive... And i see no reason for Chase not to join...SO POST!!))

Ari smiled at Bridges comment about looking festive. It was odd, she was used to being the student that stood out, but lately she had been toning it down with everyone else going all over dramatic. It was silly really, but she wanted things to go back to how they used to be. Then when he commented about the glowing punch she rolled her eyes.
“Maybe someone spiked it with some…UV paint and they’re shining a light on it from underneath? Or maybe it’s radioactive…wouldn’t surprise me… But honestly…I haven’t a clue how they managed to get it glowing…Ask someone on the Decorating committee?” Ari said, a small smile spreading across her lips.

She had then asked him about his shoulder, and he had replied that it was healing fine and would leave a scar, but it wasn’t an issue. She had scowled at that. She had seen what the humans had done to Bridge, seen the scarring across his face, and he, just then, acted like it was nothing. Again she thought that something should be done about the humans. There were probably more people like her and Bridge than there were humans…the humans just didn’t know it. It would be a good thing to remind them of their places every once in a while.

The humans used to get scared; they tried to burn the witches, shoot the werewolves, and stake the Vampires. Over time they had developed ways of getting rid of them, not that half of these ways actually worked, and the creatures of the night and of the magic had faded from sight, blending in with the humans and playing along with their ridiculous little games. The vampires acted like a cross would kill them, or at least scare them off. Silver items were very much the same for most of the vampires, but it did kill Strigoi, and could be fatal to some Moroi. She wasn’t really sure about the other species of non-humans, like she had said they had faded from sight and only after coming to Masquerade had she realised that they were still out there.

“See anyone you recognize?” Bridge had asked, and Ari had jerked her head back towards him. She was being ignorant, looking for other people while she had some perfectly good company right here. So she took a deep breath and then smiled again.
“Just one or two people… not anyone else though really… and the people I see aren’t friends of mine anyway…more like acquaintances… very rude, annoying, acquaintances…” She said the last bit thoughtfully, almost to herself as she again glanced at the Lucien boy.

“Also, what do you think of the decorations?” Bridge interrupted her angry thoughts towards the boy, and she was glad of it. She really shouldn’t be thinking so badly of someone she barely knew, but it was like the boy emitted an aura that just made her hate him. She couldn’t help it.
“I think…that the decorations are amazing… I was gonna help out, but the stuff that I wanted to do was kinda already taken…. I would’ve helped with the art stuff…the big canvases….. Maybe the Halloween one I’ll work on. I love me a good Halloween party. They’re so much fun and it means I actually kinda get to be who I am…only more exaggerated. Of course I tend to go as a Vampire something every year… Fun times…”

Ari didn’t mean to be so awkward in the way she spoke, with the brief sentences that faded into thoughts and ignorance. She really did want to talk and laugh, but being around the Fairy boy was putting her on edge. She had smelt his blood, had it covering her hands and got some on her cloths when they were in the secret passageway. It wasn’t something she could forget so easily, that sweet sugary scent that made her mouth water and her fangs ache. No….she couldn’t forget that, but it would do her no good remembering it either.

She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice the floor clearing, the students gravitating around the walls and the teachers watching the empty space like a hawk. One teacher in particular…If he started dancing then that would be the end of everything. Bridge seemed to have a similar thought as he reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Okay, I need you to trust me. We need to go dance, I don’t care how bad it is, we need to do it. If we don’t, the coaches will start break dancing, and I don’t think ANYBODY wants to see that.” He whispered at her. “It doesn’t even have to make sense, just move enough that the coaches don’t break dance.”

Ari chewed her lip and looked at the floor which seemed to be getting slowly more empty looking and the coaches slowly edging towards it. “I…I…I can’t dance though!” She whispered frantically, though she had already started walking towards the dance floor. “I’m gonna kill you though, just a warning…. I’m gonna kill you for making me do this…” Her cheeks felt like they were on fire as everyone looked at the girl in blue. It was silly really, she had been in so many dramatic performances and things like that but this felt so different. She didn’t dance at school dances. Never had done. Hoped that she never would do again…

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Chance Dunway on Thu Oct 06, 2011 2:50 am

Chance Dunway sighed as he stretched in his bed after a fitful night’s sleep. He could hear the tittering of the girls in the hallway, no doubt bright orange. He never really understood spray tans, but he came from California, where he had gotten a real tan. He wondered why anyone would be up so early...then he remembered it was a Monday. Quietly cursing, he stumbled out of bed, still half dressed in a white muscle shirt and blue and white candy stripped boxers. He stumbled around a bit, grabbing some clothes, and headed into the bathroom. He took one look around and sensed his roommate had been in and out a while ago.

Of course, his roommate was up and gone. Chance never got why his roommate was up so early. The jeans he pulled on were ones he was sure had worn yesterday, but at this point, Chance really didn’t care. He threw on his favorite gray long sleeved thermal undershirt, and a pink graphic tee. Finally, he threw on his jacket, tossing his hood up to hide his face. As he left the bathroom, not bothering to brush his hair or anything of that sort, he looked around for his Fender. There was a moment of panic when he couldn’t find it.

Finally, he spotted the pink chassis in the corner. Chance let out a sigh of relief, grabbing the Bass by the neck and tucking it away in its case. He slung the black case over his back and headed to breakfast, dreading the day of classes ahead of him. He had to take two math courses: this year’s, and a remedial for last year’s, because he flunked. Who flunks math? Chance thought to himself. Oh wait. I do. The thought put a damper on Chance’s, and he basically sulked the entire way to breakfast.

As he sat down to eat, it finally hit Chance what day it was. It was July 4th. There were no classes today because of the huge masked ball later that night. Of course, that meant that he was going to have to dress up and wear a mask or something. He was totally unprepared for this. Thankfully, he managed to grab every belonging he owned (which really wasn’t much) when he left for Masquerade. Among these items was a white wolf Masquerade mask he had bought as a joke when the name ran in the papers.

A new thought popped into his head. He wouldn’t have to hide his face, because everyone would be in masks! Looking through his measly wardrobe, he found a pair of black slacks and a grey dress shirt that would go great with his mask. He checked his watch. 11 o’clock. He still had 7 hours until the dance. So he did what any good music student at a performing arts school would do: he got out his guitar and started to play. It started as a few random chords that started turning themselves into a song.

It was a tune Chance recognized, but he couldn’t exactly place it. Then it struck him. It was “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood. It was such an old song that Chance hadn’t heard in a long, long time. He wondered if the epiphany about the masked ball earlier had been what caused the song to worm its way into his head. Regardless of how it got there, it was now stuck in his head, and probably wouldn’t leave for quite a while. Chance glanced at his watch. He had just spent the last six hours musing about a song. How does that even happen? At this point, Chance really didn’t care. He had to get ready, and he had to do it fast.

He began pulling off his clothes, knowing his roommate was probably already at the gym, and switched into his dress clothes. He stumbled into the bathroom to affix his mask in front of the vanity. Chance was sort of a perfectionist when it came to things like that, but he never really understood why. As soon as he was sure everything was perfect with the mask, he grabbed his Fender, as he never went anywhere without it, and headed toward the gym.

There was a queue when he got to the gym, so he waited patiently with all of the other masked students. Glancing around, Chance was glad to see he wasn’t the strangest one there. There was a girl painted gold, after all. Finally, 6 came around, and they started letting the students into the gym. As Chance entered, he gasped at the decorations. It looked like a fireworks factory had exploded all over the place. There were streamers on the ceiling, and painted murals on the walls. Even the food looked festive, but Chance was scared to try any of the glowing punch.

He watched as the students drifted toward the walls, leaving the gym floor stark and bare. It was sort of depressing, really. All of the other school dances he had been to had awesome music and lots of dancing. This seemed...dead in comparison. Finally, two people moved out to the vacant dance floor. One of them was a female figure. Chance could tell by the blue dress. It had black lace on it, and looked amazing. Her mask was the same shade of blue, with blue bows on it.

The other figure had a male gait, but Chance couldn’t be sure. Whoever it was was wearing dark blue dress pants, a dark red shirt and a white hat. From what he could see of their face, there was a half a mask on it, painted with fireworks patters, and the other side looked like an American flag, and then Chance noted the lips. They looked like something out of a Ke$ha music video ((Don’t think I didn’t see that, Bridge)). As they started dancing, a feeling seized Chance. He swung his bass around, and hopped up to Mr. Cobain’s DJ stand. He pulled the plug on the speakers, and hooked them up to his bass.

“Let’s get this party started!” Chance cried out, belting out the opening chords of “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5. Hopefully, that would give the two students on the dance floor something to dance to.

((Bridge wishes me to tell you his will be up by Sunday))

Re: FOURTH OF JULY BALL!!

Post  Bridge Scott on Tue Oct 25, 2011 12:23 am

“I…I…I can’t dance though!” Ari whispered frantically, though she had already started walking towards the dance floor. “I’m gonna kill you though, just a warning…. I’m gonna kill you for making me do this…”

“Oh, get in line.” Bridge muttered as he pulled the vampire toward the dance floor. “Like I said, you don’t have to be any good, you just have to keep the coaches from breakdancing.” As Bridge pulled her to the dance floor, a figure in a silver wolf mask jumped up on Mr. Cobain’s DJ stand. Suddenly, the voice of Katy Perry stopped dead. Like, it just cut out.

“Let’s get this party started!” The wolf guy cried, and started playing the opening chords to a new song by that one band...what was it called...a color and a number or something. Bridge wasn’t really sure, and at this point, he didn’t care, but it was something to dance to. Someone must’ve recognized the tune, because words soon joined the music of the wolf boy.

Just shoot for the stars
If it feels right
And aim for my heart
If you feel like
And take me away and make it OK
I swear I'll behave

Bridge turned to Ari, beginning to mouth the words to her. On the words “Aim for my heart”, Bridge brought his hands to cover the place where he felt his heart beat. Bridge could get into dancing if he really wanted too, and he probably would, embarrassing Ari for the rest of both of their stays at Masquerade--then Bridge remembered that everyone was wearing a mask and wouldn’t recognize either of them. So he decided to tell Ari as much. “Don’t worry about not being able to dance. No one’s gonna recognize you later. You’re in a mask, silly girl.” He smiled.

All the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger

Bridge got a sly grin on his face, and he was sure if Ari was looking at him, she would’ve been scared. As soon as the singer started the word All, his feet started moving together and out without ever leaving the floor. It was a strange move Bridge had been working on for a while. To accentuate the dance move, he began to snap his fingers, and move his head side to side. Bridge closed his eyes, just feeling the rush of adrenaline through his veins. The heat made his skin burn, and he began pulling at the sleeve of his shirt.

Soon, his thoughts turned to the day of the fire, and his skin wasn’t burning anymore, it felt like it was on fire. Bridge let out a scream and began tearing at his shirt, working to get his mask off in the same movement. The kiss of the flames licked at his skin the same it did that day in the fire. Bridge managed to get his mask off, flinging it half way across the gym, hearing it shatter somewhere on the floor. He really didn’t care about the mask, or the fact that his marred face was exposed to the whole of the school, he just needed to feel the cool gym air on his skin. His shirt had been torn to tatters, leaving him burned and shirtless in front of the whole gym. But Bridge really didn’t care. He just needed the cooling air.
